Attention Hot Springs Log Cabins guests: Please PRINT (or save) the confirmation we send you via email for directions, where to find your KEY, and suggestions for groceries. You may not have enough cell service to access your email/GPS as you drive to the cabins. (GPS will continue to work after you loose signal but you cannot start a new navigation.)
Hot Springs Log Cabins are six miles SOUTH of Hot Springs, NC on NC-209, a North Carolina Scenic Byway. We are “about an hour” from Asheville and The Biltmore. You can also find us by name on Google Maps. All roads leading to the cabins and town of Hot Springs (& our main driveway) are paved – but do expect curvy mountain roads! There are also gravel roads to explore if you wish – for example visiting Max Patch Bald.
Caution: Some GPS’s will try to direct you via NC 63 (shortest route) to reach the cabins. We DO NOT recommend taking 63 to arrive at the cabins!
Caution: Most GPS’s will direct you through downtown Asheville to Marshall via 19/23 (Future I-26) to exit 19A – NC 25/70 to Hot Springs. We find that driving this way involves many quick lane changes and exits that are easy to miss, as well as sometimes heavy traffic in Asheville and slow big trucks after you pass Marshall, so we route you via NC 209. You are welcome to use this route with your GPS/Google Maps and then follow our directions from Hot Springs. In our experience NC 209 is the best way to reach the cabins (via exit #24 off I-40).
Nearest Airports: Asheville Airport is well south of town so allow 1 hour 15-30 minutes. Knoxville, TN, & Greenville/Spartanburg, SC, are about 2 hours away. Charlotte, NC, is about 3 hours, and Nashville, TN, & Atlanta, GA, are about 4 hours away.
Winter Weather? 25/70 to Hot Springs (from Asheville via Marshall) is the preferred snow route as it does not involve crossing any high mountain passes.
Cabin address: 5830 NC-209 Hot Springs, NC 28743 This is NOT our mailing address.
Take exit #24 (NC Highway 209) from I-40. The sign will say “Hot Springs”. (Or take exit #104 from 19/23/74 to go onto 209 North.)
8 miles north of I-40 you will bear right at Ferguson’s General Store to stay on 209 North. Enjoy scenic 209 for another 18 miles as it takes you over Betsy’s Gap, past The Trust General Store, and then through the flats of Spring Creek. 26 miles after leaving I-40 you will arrive at Hot Springs Log Cabins. We are located at 5830 Highway 209 which will be on your left, 1/2 mile past Gorenflo Gap Road. Due to the angle of our driveway it is best to continue past the entrance and turn around at Waldroup Road (1/4 mile beyond our driveway), so that you enter our property from the North.
Please allow 45-60 minutes to reach Hot Springs Log Cabins from I-40. There is a nice Ingle’s with beer and wine sales at exit #31. Gas is available at exit #31 or exit #24
GPS Caution: Many GPS’s will try to direct you via NC 63 to reach the cabins. We DO NOT recommend taking 63 to arrive at the cabins! (It is fine if you just want to drive around and explore but this is not the easiest or prettiest way to reach the cabins.) Many other GPS’s will direct you through downtown Asheville to Marshall via 19/23 (Future I-26) to exit 19A – NC 25/70 to Hot Springs. Due to many quick lane changes we find this route to be confusing so we route you via NC 209. NC 209 is very pretty and is actually quicker than NC 63 or NC 25/70. It is the route we use ourselves!!!
Our curvy, scenic roads are what draw many visitors to our area. Please be aware however that the curves and scenery mean that you need to allow approximately an hour to travel 30 miles.
You will most enjoy your arrival if you plan it to occur during daylight hours.
If you are arriving in Hot Springs on 25/70 North from Marshall/Asheville, you will stay on 25/70 as it becomes “Bridge Street” for a few blocks, and then turns into 209. Groceries in Marshall.
You will drive 5.8 miles on NC 209 to reach the cabins. This is a dramatic drive up the Spring Creek valley with pull-outs to admire the view. You will pass the Rocky Bluff Recreation Area on your left. Hot Springs Log Cabins are located at 5830 NC-209, which is on your right leading up the knoll. (Waldroup Road is 1/4 mile before our driveway and Gorenflo Gap Road is 1/2 mile past our driveway.)
Knoxville: If you are coming in on 25/70 via Newport from I-40 Eastbound, you will turn right onto NC 209 at the gas station when you enter town. Groceries in Newport.
NE: If you are coming from the NE via I-81, you should take I-26 Eastbound to NC 213 (Exit #11) and travel through Mars Hill to Marshall, then follow 25/70 North to Hot Springs and follow the directions from Hot Springs. Groceries in Marshall.
SNOW ROUTE: If snow is likely, taking 25/70 from Asheville to Hot Springs, NC, and then following the above directions from Hot Springs will keep you at the lowest altitude and is the preferred route! Marshall does have a nice Ingles supermarket with beer and wine! [From Asheville, take 240 to 19/23/26, then take exit 19A (25/70 direction Marshall) to Hot Springs, NC.]
Leicester Highway (Highway 63) is reached via Patton Avenue in West Asheville. Stay on 63 over Doggett Mountain. Drive slowly and pay attention to the sharp switchbacks. (The passenger will be able to enjoy some fine views over the valley.) Highway 63 runs into Highway 209 at at The Trust General Store.
Turn north (right) onto 209 at this intersection and enjoy scenic 209 as it takes you through the flats of Spring Creek. Hot Springs Log Cabins are located at 5830 Highway 209 which will be on your left, 1/2 mile past Gorenflo Gap Road. Due to the angle of our driveway it is best to continue past the entrance and turn around at Waldroup Road (1/4 mile beyond our driveway), so that you enter our property from the North.
Please allow 60 minutes to reach Hot Springs Log Cabins from Patton Avenue. There is a nice Ingle’s grocery on Leicester Highway, a few miles after you turn off Patton Ave.
Take the Harmon Den Exit (#7) from I-40 near the Tennessee state line. 6 1/4 miles on Cold Springs Road (following Cold Springs Creek) will deliver you to Max Patch Road where you will turn left. Just after turning onto Max Patch Road you will make a hard right onto Little Creek Road. (If you continue on Max Patch Road you will arrive at Max Patch in 2 miles.) Follow Little Creek for 3 1/2 miles to Meadow Fork Road and turn left. Meadow Fork meanders 5 1/4 miles to 209 where you will turn left and find Hot Springs Log Cabins a mile further down the road. There is a BP station on Meadow Fork for gas and snacks. Please note that this route should only be attempted during good weather and daylight hours as the roads are dirt from I-40 to Meadowfork Rd. It is, however, a gorgeous drive and a nice route to take if you were heading over to Gatlinburg to access the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail or go to Cade’s Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
